Basic Small Unit Leader Course

From August 28 to September 8, 2023. The Mountain Warfare Center of Excellence in Slovenia, together with the Armed Forces of the Republic of Croatia, conducted a two-week course training leaders in the basics of mountain warfare.
The course was attended by 47 soldiers, including those from Croatia, Lithuania, the US, the UK, Hungary and Italy. In the role of instructors, the training was supported by two lecturers from the Department of Mountain Operations of the Command Faculty from General Tadeusz Kosciuszko Military University of Land Forces. 

The trainees were introduced to the specifics of the mountain environment, the impact of weather and terrain, the parameters of the decision-making process, and how to identify threats and manage risks in the mountains. During the training, they learned about the latest analysis of military operations in mountain environments, and practiced how to plan, prepare and conduct operations in mountainous terrain using mountaineering equipment and climbing techniques.

Courses organized by the NATO MW COE enhance interoperability among NATO forces and trust at the tactical level during multinational operations.
